Dr. Darnell Dean

Dr. Dean is an accomplished educational leader with more than thirty years of administrative and teaching experience across elementary, middle, and high school settings throughout North Carolina and DoWEA Europe. She currently serves as the principal of Netzaberg Middle School, where she is committed to cultivating an inclusive, high-performing learning community grounded in collaboration, respect, and continuous growth.

Before leading Netzaberg Middle School, Dr. Dean served DoWEA as the assistant principal of Naples Middle High School (NMHS) and Sevilla Elementary Middle School, where she played an integral role in strengthening instructional programs, supporting school improvement initiatives, and shaping positive school culture. Her earlier professional experience spans the state of North Carolina, where she taught 8th-grade social studies in addition to coaching athletics and sponsoring a variety of academic and extracurricular activities. During that time she also taught English at Fayetteville Technical Community College High School Program,

Dr. Dean earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from North Carolina Central University. She went on to complete a Master of Arts in Middle School Education and a Master of Arts in Educational Administration and Educational Leadership at Fayetteville State University, followed by additional advanced graduate studies at Liberty University. Her diverse academic background reflects her belief in lifelong learning and her dedication to enhancing educational excellence at every level.

Throughout her career, Dr. Dean has demonstrated a deep commitment to student success, school improvement, and teacher empowerment. She has served in leadership roles supporting special education services, continuous improvement processes, instructional coaching, and teacher development. She is particularly passionate about building the capacity of educators, noting that exceptional schools are created by encouraging, cultivating, and empowering teacher leaders.

Dr. Dean believes that the most essential element of learning is student growth. She understands that children learn in different ways and at different paces, and she places great value on perseverance, hard work, and a supportive learning environment. Guided by these principles, she remains highly visible within the school community, fosters teamwork among staff and students, and consistently encourages learners to challenge themselves academically.

A lifelong learner herself, Dr. Dean is dedicated to energizing educators, strengthening professional practice, and ensuring that every student has the opportunity and support needed to thrive. Her vision centers on building a school culture where students feel empowered, teachers feel valued, and families feel connected ultimately preparing all learners to become confident, capable young adults.
